I agree with Ari, looks to broken up and messy.  I do think images are powerful, but only when the supplement the content when it comes to blogging.  I think you’re argument is stronger as it pertains to infographics or when the imagery is designed and laid out well.

I’m joining the choir! I find blog posts that are predominately picture or graphics based distracting. I am all for words that say something with a picture or two for emphasis. 

Short answer? Yes. 

Storyboard approach to blogging is something that hasnt matured yet, and unfortunately we dont have a publishing platform that would enable less creative bloggers to engage in it.

This is why infographics are so popular and powerful. And studies have found that our brain is able to process audio, text and pictures simultaneously since different parts of the brain are engaged in processing each of those data inputs.

While we’re at it, we could do all that and small what’s cooking in the kitchen without losing comprehension of the article.

Could work for communicating a simple concept, but impossible if you’re developing a serious message. You would have to scroll forever. 

What you’re saying is correct and evidential in the rise of infographics but as mentioned below the images need to be of a higher quality which is difficult for a lot of people.

Yes and yes….this is a worthy discussion. Those who foster “continuity” nurtured with related visuals win. Substituting images, in my opinion (almost said “view”), for text for most of us (content seekers) are potentially disrupting in a bad way. Do we not relate to connecting, clarifying, collaborating, cheerleading (like), and then committing to the effort? That’s how I have been trained. It seems to work well for me. You?

First time on Mark’s site (listened to the Joel podcast) and made my way over. Props to you on the post.

All the hilarity aside, blog posts seem like they need to be formatted more like magazine articles (less words than the average tho) with text, images & graphics. I am not an ad guy, marketing guy or a copywriter but I am a designer (interiors/architecture) and I know what “looks” good. I agree that images to support your story go a long way to keeping interest.

That and a good story. If your writing is crap then a 1,000 words is not going to help you is it?

I think your point is great but I would produce a post that is formatted like this.  It was very tough to read and disjointed.

You have it… tons. Just use your blog platform with Storify, Bundlr, Clipboard and other content curation tools and you can have that kind of posts

I subscribe to this blog via e-mail RSS feed, and the only reason that I clicked over was because there was only a title in my email client. So for that reason, I suppose the answer should be “no”.
