Debating the future of social media leadership and strategy
May 2nd
This is a video of me sleeping. Holy crap what a lousy picture.
Nevertheless, you are going to love this video. Jay Baer and I usually see eye-to-eye but when we were on a panel at the recent Social Slam event we discovered we had radically opposing views of the future of how social media is integrated into a company. We decided this was such an interesting topic that it would make an interesting debate … so here it is in video form.
It’s a short video but it covers a lot of ground!
Will social media marketing be absorbed into the every day workplace or will it stand alone as a distinct career? Or both?
What is the future of social media consulting?
What is the most economical way for companies to deal with the frenzied pace of change in social media?
What do we make of Chris Brogan’s prediction that social media consultants will be irrelevant in two years?
I think you’re going to love this video, and of course it’s OK to disagree.
With Jay.
No seriously … I enjoy dissent and hope you know that by now. How else will we learn and grow? This is a GREAT discussion. Let me know what you think!
Want to be a social media consultant? Here’s some advice
Apr 15th
Jay Baer was the keynote speaker at the recent Social Slam conference and I had a chance to corner him for a short video interview before one of the events.
With so many people trying their hand at being a social media consultant, I thought it would be interesting to talk to him about his personal success and where he thought this might be going next. He also covers the social media “gold rush,” his revelations while writing his first book, and a few thoughts on the {grow} community.
Hope you enjoy it and respond to Jay’s ideas in the comment section …
McDonald’s scales to meet social media demands (video)
Mar 15th
In a recent #MMchat session, I referred to McDonald’s as a social media best practice and said they should give me some free fries for the reference. In a tribute to the way McDonald’s is “tuned in” to its audience, Rick Wion, the company’s director of social media, responded to one of my tweets and said that he would indeed buy me some fries.
What resulted was even better … a lengthy discussion and a short video interview when I got to meet him live at SXSW. Talk about the business benefits of Twitter!
How does a global icon like McDonald’s — one of the world’s most important brands — engage with millions of customers? Well here’s the answer in this video. I think you’re going to love this interview. We touch on some very significant topics about the research that went into their effort, humanizing a brand, staffing up for an initiative like this, and where it will lead.
Would love to hear your comments about this. We may even be able to get Rick to answer a few questions.
Mobile Marketing — Old School! (video)
Feb 25th
This is a fun and fascinating case study. How do you use social media when your business keeps moving around from street to street? This shows how the Good Food Truck of Atlanta, GA is building a movement of passionate fans … even when they’re literally mobile!
Many thanks to Glenn Taylor and the wonderful folks from MLT Creative for piecing this together for me!
